Derby made English Leagues Cup Competitions (ELCC) history by winning the Bromfield Trophy for the fourth season in a row – one of two competitions won by the league at the weekend’s finals.
Derby won the JM Rose Bowl to make it a double in the female competitions, while Sheffield won the men’s Wilmott Cup and Leamington Spa – who only reached the finals by virtue of a ‘lucky loser’ spot – lifted the Carter Cup for boys.
Player of the Day accolades were also awarded for the first time at the finals, which were hosted by Draycott & Long Eaton TTC, with the two Senior competitions held on Saturday and the Juniors on Sunday.
The players to take the awards were:
- JM Rose Bowl: Gabriela Tankel (North Herts)
- Wilmott Cup: John Taylor (Nottingham)
- Bromfield Trophy: Millie Noble (Loughborough)
- Carter Cup: William Eversham (Southend)
JM Rose Bowl

Derby won the first of their weekend double by lifting the JM Rose Bowl with a trio of players in action – Diana Rusinova, Naomi Coker and Catherine Lv.
Group 1 was cut to three teams by the late withdrawal of Leamington Spa, and Derby came through with 5-0 wins over both Cambridge and Newbury and only one set dropped.
Group 2 saw North Herts top the standings. Having started with a 4-1 win over Plymouth, they followed up with a 5-0 margin over Nottingham. They met Central London, who had also won their two matches, in the final round and opened up an unassailable 3-0 lead, going on to win 4-1.
In the final, North Herts took first blood as Larisa Titievskaja beat Coker 3-0 (13-11, 11-5, 11-8), but Rusinova levelled up by a remarkable scoreline as she defeated Gabriela Tankel 3-1 (9-11, 11-9, 11-1, 23-21).
The doubles saw North Herts re-establish their lead thanks to a 3-2 (7-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-6) victory for Titievskaja & Tankel over Coker & Lv, by Rusinova again hauled Derby level as she beat Titievskaja 3-0 (7, 6, 9).
Coker and Tankel met to decide the trophy and it was Coker who prevailed, 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9).

Cambridge took third place, defeating Central London, while Plmouth overcame Newbury to claim fifth, with Nottingham in seventh.
Wilmott Cup

Sheffield won the competition for the first time since 2015 thanks to the duo of Matthew Dodds and Garry Dodd.
They came through the group stage with 5-0 wins over Southampton and Nottingham and a 4-0 scoreline against Norwich – though there were some close calls.
Against Southampton, Dodd beat John McBeath 12-10 in the fifth having recovered from 2-0 down, while Dodds then saw off McBeath 11-9 in the fifth to complete the whitewash.
Dodds defeated Nottingham’s Jason Ramage 11-7 in the fifth, while Dodd won 11-3 in the fifth against Chris Cockburn of Norwich.
The other group saw Central London’s duo of Derek Abrefa and Oleh Biletskyi also in dominant form, beating Loughborough 5-0 (Biletskyi defeating Max Flint 11-7 in the fifth), Crawley & Horsham 5-0 and Stockton 4-1. Adam Webster beat Abrefa in Match 4 of that fixture, while Biletskyi came from 2-1 down to get past Josh Harland in Match 5.
The two group winners met to decide the champions. Abrefa put Central London ahead by beating Dodds 3-1 (11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8), but it was 1-1 after Dodd overcame Biletskyi 3-0 (11-9, 11-6, 13-11).
The doubles saw a 3-1 (11-4, 11-3, 8-11, 12-10) victory in favour of Sheffield, but Abrefa gave the Londoners fresh hope by beating Dodd 3-1 (13-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-2).
It came down to Dodds versus Biletskyi for the title, and when the former won the first two games, it looked as if it would be Sheffield’s day. However, Biletskyi fought back to level and then, at 10-7 in the fifth it was advantage Central London.
But there was to be another twist as Dodds reeled off five points in a row to steal it 3-2 (11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 12-10) and send the cup north.
Stockton beat Nottingham 3-0 to take third place, while Southampton were fifth, Crawley & Horsham sixth, Norwich seventh and Loughborough eighth.
Bromfield Trophy

Derby made history by becoming the first team to win the competition for four years in a row, and they did so by dropping only one individual match.
Having beaten Southport and Walsall both 5-0 in the groups, the duo of Naomi Coker and Catherine Lv lined up against Loughborough in the final.
Loughborough (Millie Noble and Millie Ufton) had come through their group with a 4-1 win over Leamington Spa and a 4-1 margin against Leicester.

Coker gave Derby the lead in the final, defeating Ufton 3-0 (11-7, 11-4, 11-8), but Noble hit back as she beat Lv 3-1 (11-7, 119, 8-11, 15-13).
The doubles saw a routine 3-0 (5, 5, 3) win for Derby, and Coker then saw off Noble 3-1 (11-4, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7) to clinch it for her league.
Leicester beat Southport in the play-off for third and fourth positions, and Leamington Spa overcame Walsall to take fifth.
Carter Cup

The late withdrawal of defending champions Wembley & Harrow left the competition wide open and it was Leamington Spa – the ‘lucky losers’ from the zonal stage – who stepped up.
It was not easy, though, as the group stage went to countback before Leamington (Rex Wong and Daniel Stone) got through in top spot ahead of Liverpool A by virtue of head-to-head record after both teams won two and lost one.
Leamington beat Sutton 3-2 – including a 12-10 in-the-fifth win for Wong against Jayden Griffiths in Match 1 – but lost out by the same scoreline to Derby.
Meanwhile, Liverpool A beat Sutton 3-2 but then lost 4-1 to Leamington, who took two of the first three matches in the fifth as first Wong beat Ronan Lamont Tierney (8-11, 11-6, 2-11, 11-9, 11-6) and then teamed up with Stone to claim the doubles (11-7, 8-11, 11-8, 12-14, 11-7) against Lamont Tierney & Lok Hei Lam.
Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Derby could therefore not help them when it came to the countback – though it was notable for Lamont Tierney & Chun Yet Cheung beating Billy Shi & Winston Hill 16-14 in the fifth in the doubles.
The other group was a little more sedate and was won by Birmingham, courtesy of 4-1 wins over both Southend and Worksop.
The final was a corker which went to the final set. Leamington took the lead as Wong defeated Hassan Damji 3-0 (9, 7, 4), but Mustafa Ibrahim hit back for Birmingham – 6, 7, 7 against Stone.
The doubles saw Wong & Stone defeat Maysum Damji & Hassan Damji in three (7, 8, 7), but again Birmingham found a leveller through Hassan Damji’s 3-1 (15-17, 11-1, 11-6, 11-5) win over Stone.
Ibrahim then led 2-0 against Wong, only for his opponent to strike back and go on to win 3-2 (6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-5) to seal it for Leamington.
Liverpool A took third place, beating Worksop in the play-offs, while Sutton were fifth, Southend sixth and Derby seventh.
