Wales’ Anna Hursey made it through the first round at WTT Champions Macao – but found top seed Miwa Harimoto in irresistible form in the second round.

Hursey (WR 37) faced the hosts’ Leong On Na, a wildcard entry who is ranked at No 475. Hursey was never behind in any of the three games of the round of 32 clash as she eased into the last 16.

She won the first seven points of the match on her way to winning the first 11-1, then six of the first eight points in the second, which she took 11-7. The third followed 11-6, clinched on her second match point.

She then faced world No 3 Harimoto, and it was a chastening experience as Harmioto won it 3-0 (11-2, 11-4, 11-4) in less than 19 minutes, including a run of eight points to take the first game.

England’s Tom Jarvis (WR 45) also had a tough task as he faced Japan’s world No 3 and top seed Sora Matsushima in the Men’s Singles round of 32.

Matsushima took the first four points of the match and pulled away to win the first game 11-4, but Jarvis was well in the second, clawing back an early three-point deficit, taking the lead at 9-8 and holding a game point at 10-9.

However, Matsushima won the next three points to take the game and then went on a run of four points from 7-7 in the third to seal his victory and go through to face Wong Chun Ting of Hong Kong in the round of 16.
