Young Ambassadors

Our Young Ambassadors Programme aims to incentivise 14 to 25 year olds to volunteer at their local clubs.

About the programme

The Table Tennis Young Ambassador (TTYA) programme aims to benefit young people looking for great volunteering experiences, and table tennis clubs looking for a few extra pairs of hands.

Clubs who sign up to the programme will be given the tools to grow their volunteer base and enable young people in their club and community to gain personal skills, qualifications and vital experience to enhance their CV.

Young Ambassadors will receive a series of incentives to reward the volunteering hours they log. Incentives available are as follows:

  • 10 hours: £95 bursary for a UKCC Level 1 Coaching Table Tennis course or full bursary for a Level 1 Umpire course*
  • 30 hours: TTYA sport shirt
  • 50 hours: TTYA hoodie and special recognition from Table Tennis England
  • For each level, Young Ambassadors will also receive a Table Tennis England certificate

To be eligible for the programme, Young Ambassadors must be age 14-25. Clubs must assign a Volunteer Mentor to support the Young Ambassador(s). All Mentors will be required to have an up to date DBS check in place that has been completed through Table Tennis England within the last three years, and adhere to our safeguarding guidelines (safeguarding information can be found here). DBS checks must be updated once every three years and if your DBS check expires whilst you are a mentor, you will be required to update this accordingly.

There are a variety of roles a Young Ambassador can undertake, and these will vary depending on volunteering requirements.

Young Ambassadors could be assisting with coaching sessions once a week, helping out at events, creating a digital presence for the club or joining the club committee as a Junior Representative.

The TTYA programme is available to all table tennis clubs, with incentives funded for a maximum of three Young Ambassadors per Premier Club.

Once signed up, Young Ambassadors can log their volunteering hours and claim their incentives by emailing us.

The programme is entering its third year and looking to build on the 38 Ambassadors and 21 mentors, from 20 Premier Clubs, who have signed up in the first two years.

It’s great that Table Tennis England are supporting and recognising our young club volunteers, to help clubs to continue to grow and develop its membership base.

The young people are a great addition to attending club meetings, coming up with new ideas and IT/marketing support, to help our ageing population of adult volunteers within our clubs. I would certainly recommend all table tennis clubs sign up to the scheme.
