David McBeath and Mollie Patterson are the final big winners of the Grand Prix season as they took the men’s and women’s singles titles at Wolverhampton.

McBeath defeated Toby Ellis in the final, while Patterson (pictured above) came out on top against Ewelina Sychta as the top seeds took the honours in both competitions.

There was also a double triumph for Aanchal Malhotra in the women’s banded competitions on the Saturday.

Meanwhile, entries are now open for the Crawley Grand Prix, the first stop of the 2023/24 season, in September.

Men’s Singles

David McBeath defeated London champion Toby Ellis in three games in the final to claim the title – it was a margin of 8, 7, 7 in favour of the 2018 Commonwealth Games medallist.

There was greater drama in the semi-finals, which both went the distance. McBeath defeated Bogdan Postudur 3-2 (11-5, 5-11, 12-14, 11-6, 11-7), while Ellis got past Umair Mauthoor 3-2 (11-8, 7-11, 11-5, 7-11, 11-5).

Women’s Singles

Mollie Patterson completed back-to-back triumphs having also won the Gloucester Grand Prix last month.

It was a 3-0 (11-8, 11-5, 11-8) victory for Patterson over Ewelina Sychta in the final.

In the semis, Patterson enjoyed an emphatic 3-0 (11-3, 11-0, 11-8) win over Aanchal Malhotra, while Sychta beat Isabelle Lacorte 3-1 (9-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8). A round earlier, Sychta beat Claire Heller 3-2 (11-1, 9-11, 11-3, 7-11, 12-10).

Restricted Singles

Umair Mauthoor won a tight four-game match against Adam Nutland to take home the winner’s cheque. The scoreline was 3-1 (12-10, 13-11, 8-11, 11-7) for Mauthoor.

Both semi-finals were done in three – Nutland beating Artur Caltabiano 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 and Mauthoor overcoming Mircea Neagu 12-10, 11-7, 13-11.

Under-21 Men’s Singles

Maxim Stevens made up for defeat in the Band 1 final as he beat Joseph Marlor 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-8) to take the title.

The two semi-finals were done in four as Marlor beat Adam Dennison 3-1 (9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-6) and Stevens got past Hunter 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-2, 11-7).

Marlor had a notable quarter-final victory over Adam’s brother Joseph Dennison, winning 3-2 (8-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 12-10).

Under-21 Women’s Singles

Mollie Patterson completed a double on the day thanks to a 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-6) win over Mabel Shute in the final.

She had been extended a little further in the semi-finals, needing four (11-6, 11-5, 3-11, 11-9) against Rebecca Savage, while Shute beat Emily Flynn 3-0 (8, 8, 9).

Veterans’ Singles

Lorestas Trumpauskas beat Ferxey Ayala 3-0 (11-5, 11-6, 11-8) in the final, having earlier breezed past Sujay Jagannathan 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-4) in the semi-finals.

In the bottom half of the draw, Ayala beat David Ashwell 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-2) in the semi-finals.

Men’s Band 1

Men’s Singles runner-up Toby Ellis did not leave Wolverhampton empty-handed as he came from behind to defeat Maxim Stevens 3-2 (11-5, 5-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4) in the final.

The beaten semi-finalists were Ismail Akindiya, whom Stevens defeated 3-1 (12-14, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8), and Joseph Marlor, who lost out 3-0 (12-10, 11-5, 11-2) to Ellis.

Women’s Band 1

This band followed the same pattern as the men’s band as the Women’s Singles runner-up came out on top this time – Ewelina Sychta defeating Rebecca Savage 3-1 (11-4, 11-8, 9-11, 11-2).

Savage got past Claire Heller 3-1 (14-16, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8) in the last four, while it was 3-0 (6, 6, 9) for Sychta against Mabel Shute.

Adam Jepson was the champion as he won the ‘battle of the Adams’ against Adam Dennison in the final. It was 3-1 (13-11, 11-5, 2-11, 11-7) in favour of Adam J.

Jepson defeated Magnus Hjartsson in the semi-finals and Dennison got past Joseph Marlor at the same stage.

Lok Sze Sum was the champion, eventually overcoming Abbie Hurley after her opponent had twice come from behind to level.

The final scoreline after a close match was 3-2 (13-11, 9-11, 1-5, 8-11, 12-10) in Sum’s favour.

Hurley defeated Claire Heller in the semi-finals (15-13, 11-2, 11-7), while Sum beat Sabina Devereux 11-6, 11-6, 11-4) as the two winners of groups 1 and 2 went out in the semis.

Men’s Band 3

England youngster Abraham Sellado won the band with a 3-1 (11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9) victory over Wajid Wafiq.

In the semi-finals, Wafiq came from 2-1 down to beat Ben Watson 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-8), while Sellado defeated Daniel Fielding in four (8-11, 11-2, 11-8, 11-5).

Aanchal Malhotra completed the second stage of a double title win thanks to a 3-0 (11-2, 11-6, 11-6) win over Millie Noble in the final.

It also repeated her double in the same bands at the Gloucester Grand Prix last month.

Malhotra had reached the final courtesy of another three-straight win in the semi-finals – 3, 6, 5 against Monika Tomaszek – while Noble recovered from losing the first game to defeat Laura March 3-1 (6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8).

Ferxey Ayala beat David Ashwell 3-1 (11-8, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3) in the final to

The semi-final was a close affair as Ayala defeated Wajid Wafiq 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6). In the other side of the draw, it was 3-1 (11-6, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9) for Ashwell against Ronan Kelly.

Women’s Band 4

Aanchal Malhotra’s first win of the day came in Band 4 as she overcame Bhanureka Sabaratnum 3-0 (11-1, 11-5, 11-7) in the final.

The beaten semi-finalists were Monika Tomaszek, who lost 3-0 (11-5, 16-14, 11-9) to Sabaratnam, and Laura Marsh, who could not prevent Malhotra winning 3-0 (11-4, 11-5, 11-8).

Men’s Band 5

Dominic Evans took the top prize thanks to a 3-1 (11-8, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9) triumph against Samson Bekele in the final.

It was also four games for Evans in the semi-final against Callem Pace, prevailing 3-1 (11-9, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9). Bekele defeated Christopher Marshall 3-0 (9, 7, 6) in the other semi.

Back in the quarter-finals, Evans needed to come from 2-0 down to get past Zekai Nevat 3-2 (8-11, 2-11, 11-7, 11-5, 12-10).

Men’s Band 6

Callem Pace came from 2-1 down to Jeff Rigby as he took the title. Pace triumphed 3-2 (6-11, 11-6, 6-11, 13-11, 11-5).

Pace had come from further behind in the semi-finals, recovering a 2-0 deficit against Jiten Pitamber to win 3-2 (8-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9). In the other semi-final, Dominic Evans was defeated by Rigby in four (11-2, 11-7, 7-11, 11-6).
