Connor Green reached the last 16 of the Men’s Singles at WTT Feeder Havirov, but he and Tin-Tin Ho lost a dramatic Mixed Doubles quarter-final in which they saw eight match points saved.

Green & Ho have had notable recent success as a pair, winning WTT Feeder Dusseldorf and reaching the final in the following event in Otocec.

They were third seeds in Havirov, in Czechia, and got through the first round against Louis Laine (POR) & Claire Picard (FRA) with few alarms.

They faced Polish pair Marek Badowski & Zuzanna Wielgos for a place in the semi-finals and the first four games were shared – Green & Ho leading 1-0 and 2-1 but being pegged back each time. They missed a game point in losing the second 12-10 but saved two in winning the third by the same margin.

The decider saw the English duo behind early on but they rallied and brought up five match points – only to see their opponents win the next six points to notch a match point of their own.

That was saved, as were three more held by Green & Ho and one by the Poles to leave the score at 15-15. But Badowski & Wielgos took their next chance to complete a 3-2 (6-11, 12-10, 10-12, 11-6, 17-15) victory to move into the semi-finals.

In the Men’s Singles, Green (WR 190) reached the last 16 with a good 3-2 win over 16th seed John Oyebode (WR 132) of Italy, winning four points in a row from 7-7 in the decider, to set up a tie against fourth seed Lilian Bardet (WR 58) of France.

Green gave it a real good go, twice fighting back to level the match and being well in the decider at 6-6, before Bardet won five of the next six to go through to the quarter-finals.

In the first round, Green had beaten France’s Benjamin Fruchart (WR 401) in four games.

Ho (WR 165) got through her first match in the Women’s Singles, recovering from 2-0 down to beat Nicole Arlia (WR 240) of Italy 3-2 (10-12, 5-11, 11-3, 11-3, 11-2).

She faced seventh seed Huang Yu-Jie (WR 81) of Chinese Taipei in the last 32 and was defeated 3-2 (11-0, 11-5, 8-11, 4-11, 11-6) despite a comeback from 2-0 down, having lost the first 11-0).

Jasmin Wong and Ella Pashley both went out in the group stage with two defeats each.

In the Women’s Doubles, Ho & Wales’ Anna Hursey were beaten 3-0 (14-12, 11-8, 11-2) in the last 16 by Kim Seongjin & Choi Haeeun of South Korea. Wong & Pashley went out in the first qualifying round.
