Former world and Commonwealth champion and three-time Paralympic medallist Ross Wilson has announced his retirement from table tennis.
The three-time Paralympic medallist made the announcement in a post on Instagram, bringing an end to a career which had some incredible highs.
The 30-year-old from Kent had success on the international front soon after his debut in 2011, winning Paralympic bronze at London 2012 in the Men’s Class 6-8 Team event.
It was a feat he repeated in Rio in 2016, before having his finest year in 2018, when in April he won gold in the men’s class 6-10 singles at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and later became men’s class 8 world champion.
Despite injury problems, he recovered to win another Paralympic team bronze at Tokyo 2020.
Wilson’s Instagram post read: “After 23 amazing years in table tennis, it’s time for me to say goodbye to playing the sport I love.
“Table tennis has been such a huge part of my life. For 15 of those years, I’ve had the incredible honour of representing Great Britain, which is something I’ll always be so proud of.
“This sport has taken me all over the world, given me friendships that will last a lifetime, and memories I’ll never forget.
“It’s been an incredible chapter, and while it’s not easy to close this one, I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes next.”
