The annual Isle of Wight Schools’ Tournament took place in mid November with some enthusiastic children participating.

In the Primary Schools event it was Newchurch School (pictured above) who won the event with 25 points, thus retaining the trophy that they won last year.

Gatton and Lake School were second with 20 points and Sommerfields School finished third with 18 points.

There were some close and exciting matches and children showed a keen determination to do well, encouraged by their teachers and some of their parents.

In the Under-16s event, it was Carisbrooke College who won the boys’ trophy and the Bay School at Sandown who triumphed in the girls’ event.

It is hoped that some of the children will join the local Isle of Wight Table Tennis Association and continue to play and develop their game.

IoW coaching officer, Elaine Mills, said: “We were pleased to welcome those Island schools who participated and we were impressed with the general standard of their play. We hope that the children involved will continue to play and enjoy the sport.”
