There were four different winners at the English Leagues Cup Competitions finals, hosted by Draycott & Long Eaton TTC.

In the JM Rose Bowl for Senior women, Leicester were the champions as the three-year reign of Norwich was brought to an end, while in the Wilmott Cup for Senior men, it was Central London who emerged triumphant.

Derby retained the Bromfield Trophy for Junior Girls, while Wembley & Harrow improved on last year’s third place to take the Carter Cup for Junior Boys.

Norwich lost their grip on the title after three successive victories as Leicester beat Derby in the final.

It was a mix of youth and experience for the champions as Karen Smith and Catherine Lv teamed up to win the final 3-1.

Smith beat Diane Rusinova 3-2 (7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 13-11) in a fine match to start the proceedings and Lv then made it 2-0 with a win over Naomi Coker by a 3-0 (14-12, 11-9, 11-4) margin.

Rusinova & Coker won the doubles in three straight, but Lv’s 3-1 (11-9, 11-6, 5-11, 11-4) win over Rusinova sealed it for Leicester.

It was Derby who ended the hopes of Norwich in the group stage as they won 3-2, a scoreline which obscures the fact that Derby went 3-0 up. Norwich were also beaten by Central London in the groups.

Central London defeated Wembley & Harrow to finish third, Hull were fifth, Norwich sixth, Leamington seventh and Cambridge eighth.

The final went to 11-9 in the deciding game of the final match and it was Central London who took the oldest domestic table tennis trophy as Derek Abrefa beat Daniel Jones 3-2 (10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9).

Earlier, Oleh Biletskyi put the Londoners in front with a four-game victory over Jones, but Nathaniel Saunders beat Abrefa in three and Birmingham won the doubles in four to move in front. Central London hit back as Biletskyi won his second match, in three against Saunders.

Norwich beat Scunthorpe in the play-off for third and fourth, with the rest of the finishing order made up of Reading, Wembley & Harrow B, Oxford B and Wembley & Harrow A.

Millie Ufton defeated Senuli Ranasinghe in the final match to seal victory for Derby over Norwich in a repeat of last season’s final – which was also won by Derby.

Ufton won 3-1 (11-5, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9) as Derby won despite two victories for Eva Eccles.

Eccles put her side in front by beating Ufton in four, but Millie Noble levelled for Derby as she defeated Ranasinghe and Derby then took the doubles as the two Millies beat Eccles & Charlotte Cheung. Eccles’ win over Noble set up the winner-take-all final match and it was Ufton who prevailed.

Leicester beat Leamington 3-1 to take third place, while Southend were fifth and Southport sixth.

Wembley & Harrow were triumphant as Oscar Nikolli and Nishil Shah combined to take the prize home to north west London.

Up against Liverpool A in the final, Nikolli beat Fraser Massey in four in the first match, but Noah Marshall got Liverpool level with a 3-2 (11-8, 9-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8) win over Shah.

The doubles saw Wembley & Harrow move back in front as they won in four, and Nikolli sealed the cup with a win over Marshall in three straight.

The champions had to fight past Worksop in the group stage, as their opponents fought back from 2-0 down to force a decider. William Short & Sam Batty won the doubles 12-10 in the fifth and Batty then beat Nikolli in the fifth, but Shah overcame Short in three close games.

Birmingham beat Reading to take third spot, with Derby A fifth, Walsall sixth, Worksop seventh and Norwich, the holders, eighth.
