Sam Walker won three qualifying rounds to reach the main draw at the WTT Feeder Dusseldorf, but then saw his run ended by compatriot Tom Jarvis in the last 64 – Jarvis meanwhile beat the 16th seed to continue his run into the last 16.

Walker (pictured above), currently ranked No 332, came from 2-0 down to beat Turkey’s Tugay Yilmaz (WR 695) in the first qualifying round and then had a good 3-1 win over Spain’s Juan Perez (WR 175), the second highest-ranked player in qualifying.

Another four-game victory, against Andrei Putuntica of Moldova (WR 342) put him into the main draw, where he was paired against Jarvis.

Walker took the first game but Jarvis (WR 199) hit back to lead and, although Walker saved three match points, he could not turn the tide and Jarvis won 3-1 (8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 14-12).

Jarvis next faced 16th seed Park Gyuhyeon (WR 117) of South Korea and won a pulsating match 11-4 in the fifth.

The Englishman had to recover from losing the first game as left-hander Park took three successive points from 8-8, and he also had to save game points at 9-10 and 12-13 in the second before winning it 15-13 on his own third game point.

A run of seven points from 0-2 put Jarvis in charge of game three, which he won 11-8 on his fourth game point, but Park hit back 11-9 in the fourth, also on his fourth game point.

Park won the first two points of the decider, but Jarvis won 10 of the next 11 against an increasingly dejected opponent and won the match on his second match point.

His opponent in the last 16 tomorrow was fourth seed Zhou Qihao of China (WR 56), who took the first game 11-7.

The second game saw Jarvis engineer two game points at 10-8, but he was unable to take either. Jarvis then saved a game point before Zhou took his next chance to move 2-0 ahead, and he completed victory by an 11-7 margin in the third, although Jarvis did save three match points.

Tin-Tin Ho was seeded into the main draw and she today defeated Ece Harac of Turkey (WR 213) 3-1 (12-14, 11-8, 11-5, 11-5).

Ho (WR 175) did not have any game points in the first, but was not behind in any of the three subsequent games, including taking a 9-0 lead in the third.

She faced fifth seed Yang Yiyun of China (WR 71) in the round of 32 and found the defensive player a tough opponent. Although Ho led in both of the first two games – 5-2 and 5-3 respectively – Yang was able to turn the pressure back on to Ho and won 11-7, 11-5, 11-5.

Ho, alongside Wales’ Anna Hursey, competed in the Women’s Doubles as second seeds, but they were defeated in a thriller in the last 16 by Chinese pair Li Yake & Fan Shuhan.

Ho & Hursey saved four game points and missed one of their own before losing the first game 15-13, and Li & Fan added the second 11-4 – but the British hit back by winning the next two 11-7 and 11-9 – though the latter saw six game points saved by the Chinese pair.

That was only a precursor to a dramatic decider. The game looked up when the Li & Fan led 10-3, but Ho & Hursey brilliantly saved all seven match points. They saved another one at 10-11, and then saw one of their own saved at 12-11 – but the Chinese finally took their ninth match point as they won the game 14-12.

Before their singles clash, Jarvis & Walker combined in the Men’s Doubles last 16 against third seeds Youssef Abdel-Aziz & Khalid Assar of Egypt. They lost a close three-game match, having chances when they led the second 8-5 and 9-7 and having a game point in the third.

Walker & Ho made it into the quarter-finals of the Mixed Doubles, beating Maciej Kubik & Katarzyna Wegrzyn of Poland 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7).

They met fourth seeds Park Gyuhyeon & Lee Daeun of South Korea, who proved too strong in a 3-0 (8, 8, 5) victory.
