Become a referee
Get involved in the running of tournaments by becoming an official referee
A lot of their work goes unseen but not unnoticed, referees are at the very centre in the build up to and during competitions.
Working with tournament organisers and the team of umpires, it is a referee’s role to have oversight of everything that is happening across the various tables and to make sure the competition is running smoothly and fairly.
By becoming a referee, you’ll get to take responsibility for a team of umpires and be part of the team that brings a tournament to life alongside the tournament organisers. If playing your part in the biggest tournaments at home and around the world is something that interests and excites you, then the Referee Pathway provides just those opportunities.
Referee Pathway
There are four levels of referee on the pathway:
- Level 1 – this is the entry-level qualification for refereeing and can only be accessed by having completed the Level 1 Umpire course first
- Level 2 – stepping up to referee at national competitions where you’ll play your part in facilitating competition for the nation’s top players. This is accessible from Level 1 Referee or Level 2 Umpire
- Level 3 (International Referee) – taking flight, Level 3 is the level at which referees can officiate at international events. This is accessible from Level 2 Referee or Level 3 Umpire
- Level 4 (Advanced International Referee) – the highest level of refereeing and representing the best from around the world, they are qualified and experienced for the biggest competitions in the sport. This is accessible from Level 3 Referee or Level 4 Umpire
There is currently no courses running for Level 1 Referees, please contact [email protected] if you are interested in becoming a referee.
