Tianer Yu lost to world No 19 Junior Syndrela Das of India at the WTT Youth Contender Doha.

Yu was in the same group as second seed Wu Jia-En of Chinese Taipei and, though she held her own, was defeated in three.

But she made it through to the knockout stage thanks to a 3-1 (11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-7) victory over Mak Ming Shum (WR 116) of Hong Kong.

Yu, currently No 59 in the Junior ranks, faced sixth seed Das in the last 16 and took the third game 12-10 to remain in contention, only for her opponent to run through the fourth 11-3 to clinch her place in the quarter-finals.

Yu now moves on to the Youth Star Contender at the same venue, beginning on Friday.
