England’s Tianer Yu beat the No 11 Junior in the world rankings as she made a winning start to the WTT Singapore Youth Smash.
Being held alongside the senior Singapore Smash, the event features an innovative format over best of seven games, which sees the first to seven points win the game. There are no deuces, except in a deciding game.
Yu (WR 45) faced India’s Divyanshi Bhowmick in the first match of the group stage and won in six games, including taking the first two on a ‘golden point’ with the score at 6-6.
Yu will complete her group matches against Dania Mohd (WR 73) of Malaysia and Yoo Yerin (WR 17) of South Korea on Friday.
