England duo Tin-Tin Ho and Sam Walker both exited WTT Feeder Cappadocia in Turkiye in a deciding game at the last 16 stage.

Ho, who has risen 44 places to No 179 in the world rankings this week on the back of her good performance in reaching the quarter-finals of the WTT Feeder Doha, faced Merve Demir of the host nation in the round of 32.

She was only behind to the first point of the match and pulled clear from 4-4 to win the first 11-5. The second was event up to 8-8, with Ho never behind, and she won three in a row to seal it 11-8.

Demir had a go in the third and led 4-1, but Ho worked back to lead 7-6 and then won four in a row from 7-7 to complete victory.

She then faced seventh seed Elena Zaharia (WR 130) of Romania for a place in the quarter-finals. Five points in a row from 7-5 down effectively won Zaharia the first game, but Ho led throughout the second and took four in a row from 6-4 on her way to taking it 11-5.

The English No 1 led the third 8-4 and 10-8, but saw Zaharia take four in a row to turn it around, but again Ho hit back by blitzing the fourth 11-3 with runs of six and four points in a row.

The decider was neatly poised at 4-4 but Zaharia then made her move with four successive points and there was no way back for Ho.

Walker (WR 225) was handed a tie against independent athlete Vladislav Makarov, currently unranked, in the Round of 32.

Walker had few problems getting the better of his opponent, winning the first four points of the match and going on to take it 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 12-10) – though he did have to save a game point in the third.

Walker then faced world No 30 Junior Gorkem Ocal of the host nation. Ocal (WR 379 on the senior list), surprisingly knocked out second seed Martin Allegro (WR 98) of Belgium in the last 32.

And he once again showed his mettle in a tight battle, beginning by taking the first game 12-10 on his third game point.

Walker led the second 7-0 and won it 11-6, but Ocal hit back in a lengthy third game, which he won 14-12, on his fifth game point.

Walker did not have a chance of his own in that pivotal third, but looked to have taken back the initiative won he won the fourth 11-8, thanks largely to a run of four points to go 8-5 up.

When Ocal led the decider 7-0, it was crisis mode for Walker – but he won five in a row and then another three on the spin to level up the match at 8-8.

But the youngster showed his nerve to take the next two points and then seal victory on his second match point.

Ho was also in the Mixed Doubles alongside Li Hon Ming of Hong Kong. They received a bye in the first round and faced Clement Laine of Portugal & Italy’s Gaia Monfardini in the quarter-finals, where they were beaten in five games having been 1-0 and 2-1 up.
