On Saturday 13th December 2025, Topspin Table Tennis Club, based in Quebec, County Durham, proudly hosted its sixth Women & Girls’ Day, an event that continues to grow in popularity and impact each year. The day was expertly organised by Clare Flynn and Rita Dixon, whose dedication and passion for promoting women’s table tennis shone through in every aspect of the event.
The aim of Women & Girls’ Days at Topspin TTC is simple yet powerful: to inspire women and girls to play table tennis in a safe, supportive and inspirational environment. These days celebrate not just the sport itself, but also fun, friendship, togetherness and confidence-building, making them welcoming for players of all backgrounds and experience levels.
This year’s event was a huge success, with 31 women and girls attending, ranging in age from just 6 years old to an impressive 82. Players travelled from across the region, including Durham, Newcastle, Sunderland, Cleveland and North Yorkshire, highlighting the strong reputation Topspin TTC has built for inclusive and enjoyable women’s events.
The day was particularly memorable as it marked one of the first major events held in Topspin TTC’s beautiful new venue, following the recent move by the club’s women’s section, Topspinners. The new space features nine top-quality tables, offering excellent playing conditions and exciting opportunities for the club to continue growing and developing in the years ahead.
Throughout the day, players were given plenty of opportunities to play against women of all ages and abilities, encouraging learning, confidence and connection. The hall was filled with laughter, encouragement and positive energy, and it was clear that everyone—whether beginner or experienced player—felt welcome and supported.
Adding to the warm atmosphere was the ever-popular Topspinners’ Café, located on the stage. It proved to be a big hit, offering a tempting selection of delicious homemade bakes, which were thoroughly enjoyed by players between matches.
Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive, with the club’s guestbook filled with lovely comments, including:
“A lovely day with lovely people.”
“I had a wonderful day. It was well organised in a fabulous venue. Great atmosphere!”
“Fab day! Great to see so many women together having so much fun!”
Members also generously donated raffle prizes, with proceeds raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, the Jamaica Hurricane Relief Fund, and Topspin Table Tennis Club itself—further reflecting the strong sense of community and generosity within the club.
Anyone interested in joining Topspinners or Topspin TTC is encouraged to get in touch with club coach Clare Flynn. Clare runs a number of weekly practice sessions for both men and women, as well as a dedicated weekly coaching session exclusively for women, providing excellent opportunities for players to develop their skills in a supportive environment.
With the success of this event, there is plenty to look forward to—so be sure to look out for more events from Topspinners TTC throughout the year.
