Table Tennis England has launched its new Coaching Development Framework and coaching pathway, reflecting the ways in which coaches learn and the contexts in which they deliver.
The new pathway will see the previous structure of Levels 1-4 replaced by three clear role-based qualifications: Coaching Assistant, Coach and Head Coach.
- Coaching Assistant Qualification: Coaching Assistants support delivery and help shape safe, positive first experiences for participants. Coaching Assistants will have the opportunity to be accredited to deliver sessions independently
- Coach Qualification: Coaches will be supported to independently plan, deliver, and positively impact a wider range of participants through this qualification
- Head Coach Qualification: Head Coaches will be developed in strategic leadership to shape environments, programmes and people, and drive quality, culture, and long-term development within their environment.

The first intake for the Coaching Assistant Qualification will launch in February 2026, with the Coach Qualification’s inaugural delivery taking place in Spring 2026 with a second to follow later in the year. The Head Coach Qualification will open for registration in Autumn of 2026.
Table Tennis England’s Coach Learning & Development Manager, Evie Collier, said: “This is a really exciting time to be involved in table tennis coaching as we launch our new pathway and framework for coach development.
“We’ve made these changes to better reflect the coaching environment and ensure that coaches across the country are better supported and equipped to develop themselves and the players they work with.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the current coaching community benefit from the brand-new CPD offerings, as well as how we welcome new coaches in and see them develop and progress.”
Coaches who would like to find out more about the new Coach Development Framework and the new pathway structure can sign up to attend one of two online Coaching Q&A sessions on 25 and 27 January by clicking on the button below.
This new approach will enable coaches to tailor their development within their qualification through CPD, as well as progress along the pathway.
The CPD courses delivered throughout the year will be targeted to specific settings, enabling community coaches and performance coaches alike to identify the opportunities that are most relevant to them and the players they coach.
The new suite of CPD opportunities are now live for booking, with January courses including Corner Coaching, which will look at tactical insights of corner coaching strategies, and Player Pathway to understand the pathway and its alignment to coaching methods.
In February, CPD opportunities will include Fundamentals of Movement, focusing on movement drills, balance, co-ordination and warm-up drills, and Playing Styles to help investigate various playing styles and coach accordingly.
You can view the 12-month plan for CPD courses (subject to change) below and book onto courses by clicking on the button below.

Coaches with existing Table Tennis England coaching qualifications will be mapped onto the new structure, ensuring that their training and experiences are reflected within the new role-based system.
Level 1 Coaches will become Coaching Assistants (Accredited and recognised to deliver sessions independently), Level 2 and 3 Coaches will be translated to the Coach qualification, whilst Level 4 Coaches will become Head Coaches.

At the heart of this new approach sits the Coach Development Framework which provides a clear structure for how coaches grow, develop and succeed over time.
Rather than focusing solely on qualifications, the framework recognises that coach development is continuous, shaped by experience, reflection, education and support. It brings together formal learning, practical coaching experience and ongoing CPD to help coaches build confidence, competence and impact within their chosen environment.
