Yorkshire Veterans first team built on their unbeaten start to their County Championships Premier Division campaign after their three-win start at Ashford in the first round with a four from four title-winning performance over the second weekend at Nottingham TTC.

Yorkshire confirmed their superiority by recording victories against four counties chasing them for honours and started on Saturday with a hard fought 7-3 victory over Kent which was followed by a 9-1 thumping of Middlesex.

Sunday saw possibly the White Rose county’s toughest clash as they finally put aside a determined challenge from Hertfordshire with a 6-4 victory, and although the title was already secured they completed their campaign with an 8-2 win over host county Nottinghamshire.

Although Yorkshire were hot favourites and performed as such, never letting their performances slip, Sunday afternoon proved exciting with three counties vying for the runners-up spot – Middlesex, Kent and Nottinghamshire.

At the end of an exciting afternoon’s play all three completed their seasons with 17 points, which was 8pts adrift of Yorkshire. But it was Middlesex who took the runners-up spot by virtue of a superior sets advantage over their two rivals as they won 40, compared with their rivals who both had 39.

This season we say goodbye to two counties with mixed Premier Division experience as South Yorkshire were relegated after one season and make a swift return to Division One although injuries to Stephen Horsfield and Zoe Cheeseman did not help.

South Yorkshire are joined by multi champions Leicestershire, who were unable to maintain their Premier Division status as Essex just finished one point ahead of them.
