England’s Cadet Boys’ team earned the highest finishing position of equal 13th as the team events drew to a close at the European Youth Championships in Poland.

The squad of Ralph Pattison (pictured above), Rohan Dani and Isaac Kingham lost to Hungary in their penultimate play-off, but bounced back to defeat Czechia 3-2 in the 13th-16th bracket, coming from 2-1 down as Pattison won twice and Dani clinched the key victory.

England’s Junior Girls and Cadet Girls both ended in 16th place.

The Cadets (Sienna Jetha, Ella Pashley, Naomi Coker) lost their final three positional matches to Turkey, Portugal and then, narrowly, to an Azerbaijan team they had beaten in the group stage.

The Juniors (Mari Baldwin, Anaya Patel, Erin Green) also lost their final three positional matches, to Spain, Wales (for whom GB squad player Anna Hursey won twice) and Croatia.

The Junior Boys were narrowly beaten by Spain in the second group stage, despite fifth-game victories for Connor Green and Ben Piggott which saw England lead 2-1.

The team, which also featured Louis Price, then beat Estonia in the 21st-24th bracket, meaning they finished in a share of 21st place.

The Championships now move on to the individual events, which begin on Wednesday.
