Worthing Table Tennis Club recently hosted a Coaching the Whole Player CPD course, designed to equip coaches with the tools and knowledge to develop not only skilled players but well-rounded individuals. The course attracted coaches from the club and beyond, all eager to enhance their coaching approaches.
The session focused on integrating the 5Cs—Competence, Confidence, Connection, Character, and Creativity—into training sessions. By embedding these key principles, coaches can foster an environment that supports personal growth as well as sporting excellence. This holistic approach ensures that players develop essential life skills alongside their technical abilities, reinforcing the importance of character development in sports.

Participants praised the course for its engaging and insightful delivery, with many highlighting how the framework would influence their future coaching sessions. By prioritizing both personal and athletic development, the course emphasized how table tennis can be a powerful tool for positive change.
A special thanks to Sally Hughes for her support in making the course possible and to Matt Porter for running the practical element of the session. Their contributions were invaluable in ensuring the success of the event.
Worthing Table Tennis Club continues to invest in coach development, ensuring that the next generation of players benefit from a well-rounded and supportive training environment. With initiatives like this, the club is helping shape not only better athletes but also confident and resilient individuals prepared for challenges both on and off the table.
