Talented players from London and Essex put on a super display of table tennis as eight new champions were crowned at the Jack Petchey Foundation Schools Individual Finals.

Youngsters who had qualified in four age groups from five London areas and Essex battled it out at the University of East London’s SportsDock.

Under-11 Boys

Jacob Vogl of UCS won the title in a keenly contest final against Ethan Collins from John Ray Junior School in Braintree.

Vogl won the first game 11-2, but it was much closer after that as he took the second 12-10, before Collins reduced the gap by winning the third game 11-6. But Vogl edged the fourth 13-11 to complete a 3-1 victory.

In the semi-finals, Vogl was pushed hard by Billy Andrews of Brentwood Prep School, coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2 (11-13, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-8). Collins defeated Thomas Yau (Churchfields Junior School, Woodford) 3-0 (11-4, 11-2, 11-2) in the other semi-final.

The plate competition was won by Sebastian Dawe, who beat Aarav Devani in the final.

Under-11 Girls

Matilda Hopkins of Fox Primary School was the champion as she overcame Yueci (Yi) Li of Eltham College 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-1) in the final.

The bronze medallists were both from Fox Primary – Emma Chan, who was beaten 3-1 (7-11, 14-12, 11-6, 11-4) by Hopkins, and Zhixuan (Kaylee) Zeng, who lost out 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 17-15) to Li.

Under-13 Boys

Arjun Anchan of Wilson’s School, Wallington, was the victor in the final, defeating Suni Desai of the Anglo European School 3-0 (11-4, 11-7, 11-8).

The bronze medallists were Kaysan Khalid of Morpeth School, who lost out 3-1 (11-13, 11-8, 11-2, 11-6) to Anchan in the semi-finals, and Anirudh Anchan (Wilson’s), who was unable to set up a family final against his brother as he was defeated 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 13-11) by Desai.

The Plate was won by Hayden Hau of Ilford County High, who beat Aaron Bathia (Orley Farm, Harrow) in the final.

Under-13 Girls

The medallists in the Under-13 Girls’ competition

Grace Liu took the title back to Chelmsford County High School for Girls as she recovered from dropping the first game to beat Alena Bodnar of Overton Grange School, Sutton, 3-1 (10-12, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9).

Liu had to fight through a tight semi-final against Adu Mimololuwa (Eastbrook School, Dagenham), finally winning 3-2 (14-12, 12-14, 11-5, 8-11, 12-10). The other semi-final saw Bondar defeat Isabelly Lorrana (Addey and Stanhope, Lewisham) 3-2 (11-3, 5-11, 7-11, 11-7, 11-2).

The Plate competition was won by Tejasri Narula (Newstead Wood), overcoming Zita Lee (Cheam High) in the final.

Under-16 Boys

The U16 Boys’ podium

Chin Yin Ng won the title for Crest Academy, Neasden, thanks to a 3-1 (10-12, 11-2, 11-2, 11-8) victory in the final against Ali Hashim of Westminster Academy Secondary.

Hashim beat Rishi Patel of Avanti House Secondary School 3-1 (5-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4) in the semi-finals, while Ng got past Arnav Sharma of Coombe Boys 3-1 (10-12, 12-10, 11-9, 11-7).

Nico Mayorga (Sutton Grammar) won the Plate by beating Louis Green (Woodbridge High) in the final.

Under-16 Girls

The U16 Girls’ podium

Melisha Anthony of Philip Morant School & College in Colchester was the gold medallist as she overcame final opponent Nour Alamine 3-1 (11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3).

Anthony beat Morpeth School’s Emma O’Brien 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 12-10) in the semi-finals, while Alamine edged past Niylah Fernandez of Addey and Stanhope 3-2 (11-8, 11-7, 6-11, 7-11, 13-11) in a tense match.

The Plate was won by Ashleigh Sharp or Morpeth School, who won the final against Estelle Domingo (The Charter School East Dulwich).

Under-19 Boys

The Under-19 Boys’ medallists

A thriller of a final was won by Morpeth School’s Ewan Sharp as he came from 2-0 down to edge out Kwun Yin Ng of Michaela Community School, Wembley, 3-2 (7-11, 5-11, 11-7, 12-10, 12-10).

Sharp earlier beat Joshua Fernandes of St Dominic’s Sixth Form College, Harrow, 3-0 (11-5, 11-9, 11-9) in the semi-finals, while the other bronze medal went to Krish Panchal of Crest Academy, who was beaten 3-0 (11-9, 11-3, 11-4) by Ng.

Bing Lin of Addey and Stanhope was the Plate winner, beating schoolmate Joshua Ljelekah in the final.

Under-19 Girls

The Under-19 Girls’ medallists

Luna Archard of St George’s Catholic School in Westminster won gold by beating Kelly Ng from Wallington High School for Girls 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-3) in the final.

Bronze medals went to Sophie Lee of Nonsuch High School for Girls, Sutton, who was defeated 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-3) by Archard, and Macy Ng, who lost a fantastic match against her sister Kelly 3-2 (11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 10-12, 11-9).

In the Plate, Alesha Ellis-Austin (ARU Writtle) won the final against Jacqui Lesh (Twyford C of E High).
