BATTS keep knocking off the wins as they prevailed once again with a whitewash of Drumchapel Glasgow. Their title hopes remain intact – just – but they will realistically need to win all of their remaining games to have a chance.
Ormesby and Brighton will inevitably be the hardest games to knock off but before they play them, they’re doing a good job of getting their business done, as proven here against a Drumchapel side scrapping for survival.
Just three ends were dropped during the session, two of them in doubles, as Alexis Douin, Shayan Siraj and Joshua Bennett (pictured above – photo by Michael Loveder) came through unscathed.
The tone was set in the opening fixtures as Douin and Siraj beat Aaron McKibbin and Victor Guang Shi in straight ends. Guang had, in fairness, lost two ends in deuce.
The game of the day proved to be doubles as Douin returned to the table to partner Bennett, while McKibbin and Guang dusted themselves off. That’s just what they did, as they raced into a 2-0 lead. However, BATTS are made of steel and their pairing fired back to win the next three ends and put them on the brink of victory.
Bennett duly obliged, beating Dongshuo Han to secure the league points. From there, it was all about putting the biggest score on possible.
That they did. Douin did drop an end to Guang but crucially won a tight third end and never looked back from there.
Bennett beat McKibbin relatively comfortably, leaving many contemplating the whitewash – which BATTS delivered, with Siraj beating Han in three.
Next up for BATTS are Brighton and Ormesby. We’ll know then if the title race is down to two or remains at three.
