Will the defending champions hold on to their crowns in the Veterans’ British Clubs League or will there be new winners? The answer will become clear this weekend.
More than 420 players will be in action in 15 divisions at Derby Arena and satellite venue Draycott & Long Eaton TTC, with titles set to go down to the wire.
Both Premier Divisions are tight, with Ellenborough and Global University Systems Horsham Spinners a point clear in the Women’s and Men’s categories respectively.
Horsham are the only unbeaten team across the Premier Divisions, having finished Weekend 1 with four victories and one draw.
They are closely followed by defending champions Topspin Fusion, who are a point behind having lost only to the leaders – though by an emphatic 5-1 margin.
The top two will meet in the final round on Sunday afternoon, though there is plenty of time for things to have changed before then, and third-placed Bribar Knighton Park may still have a say about the outcome.
They are three points behind the leaders, though were the only team to take points off them when they drew 3-3, having led 3-1.
Horsham have the same trio on duty – Jacek Koziarski, Oleh Biletskyi and Mircea Neagu – and have strengthened by adding Roman Doryn, who is rated at No 3, just behind Koziarski. Fusion are again spearheaded by No 1 Lorestas Trumpauskas, backed up by No 5 Victor Guang Shi.
Bribar may have lower-ranked players on paper, but Jason Ramage and Chris Rogers know how to win this title and are backed up by Ferenc Horvath and Mark Short – their four-strong squad cover off places nine to 12 in the ratings.
Unlike the Men’s top flight, the defending champions do lead the way in the women’s Premier, with Ellenborough a point clear of Foresters.
Ellenborough are going for their fourth title in a row and could have taken a stranglehold on the division, only to lose to their nearest challengers in the final round on Weekend 1.
That result kept Foresters hanging on to the leaders’ coattails, with Bribar Deighton and Bribar Knighton Park two points further back and, if not completely out of it, needing something spectacular to get to the summit.
It is an unchanged quartet on the Ellenborough squad list, with No 1-ranked Sara Williams (pictured above), who has won 8/8 so far, backed up by No 2 Hurey Ahmetoglu, No 5 Sanja Clements and No 14 Tumay Ekrem.
Foresters are led by No 3 Gabriela Tankel, backed up by Kinga Oryl (13), Larisa Titievskaja (20) and Jurate Brazaityte (22), while Bribar Deighton have three top-10 players in Joanne Keighley, Janet Adams and Xiaoman Ji.
