Scratby Table Tennis Club in Norfolk have been awarded a grant of almost £2,000 to support sessions which help older people to play regular table tennis.

The club received £1,854 from Norfolk Community Foundation through the Connecting Older People Fund to support in providing a reasonably priced place for senior residents to meet in the warm.

The club hosts sessions at All Saints Parish Hall, Beach Road, Scratby. On Tuesdays from 2-4pm and Thursdays from 7-9pm.

Club Treasurer Gerry Bennett said: “Scratby Table Tennis is an unincorporated community interest group providing a service to mostly senior residents in the surrounding area. Our aim is to provide a place to meet others, for a chat, a hot beverage and the occasional biscuit and of course a game of table tennis.

“We applied for the one-year grant to reduce the cost for each participant from £3 to £2 per session to enable them to play more than once a week, also making it accessible to more people.

“This will lead to more people wanting to join us, so therefore we will require another table to accommodate more players. We need to train up three of our members in first aid and part of the grant will help with that.”

Claire Mackintosh MBE, Chief Executive of Norfolk Community Foundation, said: “Norfolk Community Foundation is delighted to support this much needed project that will make a real difference in the community. We wish them every success with their work.”
