Five England players reached the knockout stage at the WTT Youth Contender Havirov event in the Czech Republic, but none were able to get past the first round.

Jakub Piwowar (pictured above in action at the event) went through in both the under-17s and under-15s. In the older age group, he was beaten by Wang Tingyu of China in the last 64.

Ben Piggott, Krish Chotai and Isaac Kingham all went out in the group stages, Piggott and Chotai both losing five-setters which would have seen them through had they won.

In the under-15s, Adam Alibhai and Max Radiven went out in the groups, but Piwowar and Isaac Kingham advanced having both won crucial five-set matches.

In the last 64, Kingham held a 2-0 lead against higher-ranked Sudhansu Maini of India but was unable to convert it into victory, while Piwowar lost in three to Shunto Iwaida of Japan.

Piggott and Louis Price both got through to the last 64 in the under-19s, and Price was close to winning his group, holding a 2-0 lead over France’s Adrien Coton before the world-ranked No 68 hit back. Maxim Stevens and Chotai went out at this stage.

In the last 64 matches, Piggott lost to ninth seed and world No 32 Borna Petek of Croatia, while Price was beaten by Slovakia’s Jakub Goldir, ranked 22 places above him at No 141.

In the under-13s, Radiven went through to the last 16 as group runner-up and was beaten by the fourth seed, Jan Skalda of the host nation. Alibhai went out at the group stage.

The girls competitions follow, with Amy Marriott, Rebecca Savage and Jasmin Wong competing.
