Kacper Piwowar reached the last 16 and there were also knockout stage victories for Ben Piggott, Ralph Pattison and Larry Trumpauskas at the WTT Youth Contender Senec in Slovakia.

Piwowar got through his group in the under-13s and went on to beat Ma Yeongjun of South Korea 3-2 (11-6, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7) to reach the last 16.

There, he was defeated 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-7) by France’s Sandro Cavaille, ranked 80 places below him at No 434 in the world.

Prayrit Ahluwalia and Max Radiven also reached the knockouts and both went out in the last 32 – Ahluawalia to eventual champion Enrique Rios of Puerto Rico.

Piwowar and Radiven also reached the knockouts in the under-15s, along with Pattison (pictured above) and Trumpauskas.

The two older boys each won their first-round match to go into the last 32, where Pattison was edged out 3-2 (9-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-13, 11-7) by Lin Chin-Ting of Chinese Taipei and Trumpauskas lost 3-1 (12-10, 7-11, 15-13, 11-8) to Loy Xing Yao of Singapore, who both went on to reach the quarter-finals.

In the under-17s, five English boys reached the knockouts but only Pattison got through the first round, beating Belgium’s Xavier Wats 3-1. He went out in the last 32 to Lleyton Ullman of Germany.

Trumpauskas, Piggott, Toby Ellis and Adam Dennison went out in the last 64, Trumpauskas to the second seed from Chinese Taipei. Dennison had a marathon group stage win, defeating Kushal Chopda of India 3-2 (11-8, 21-23, 13-11, 4-11, 11-8), while Piggott came from 2-0 down to defeat Roman France of Slovakia in his group.

In the under-19s, Ellis and Piggott got into the knockouts, and Piggott picked up a 3-2 (11-8, 11-9, 9-11, 7-11, 11-6) win over Czech Borek Otahal to reach the last 32, where he went out to Poland’s Mateusz Zelengowski. Ellis was edged out 12-10 in a decider in the last 64 by Tim Giltia of Belgium.

Dennison, Josh Bruce and Nahom Asgedom went out in the groups, Bruce beaten 11-9 in a decider in his second match.
