English involvement in the WTT Contender Lagos was brief as both Tin-Tin Ho and Sam Walker went out at the first hurdle in both singles and doubles.

Walker was exempt from the first qualifying round and faced India’s Jeet Chandra in the second qualifying round and both players led before Walker levelled to make it 2-2. But Chanda (WR 272) won the decider 11-9.

Ho was also straight into the second qualifying round, where she faced Wang Xiaotong of China (WR 259) and was beaten in three straight.

In the Mixed Doubles, Walker & Ho took on fourth seeds Manav Vikash Thakkar & Archana Girish Kamath of India in the last 16 and were in the match when they saved three game points on the way to taking the second 14-12. But that was as good as it got as the Indian pair took the next two games to advance to the quarter-finals.

Ho paired up with Wales’ Charlotte Carey for the Women’s Doubles and they were also in it at 1-1, but their Chinese opponents Guo Yuhan & Li Yake shaded the third and then won five points in a row to take the fourth 11-5 and seal their quarter-final place.
