The Cadet and Junior 4* leaderboards are complete and invitations will soon be sent out for the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior National Championships.

The six 4* competitions held around the country provide an entry route to the Cadet and Junior age groups at the Nationals.

A total of 32 girls and boys are invited in each of the Cadet and Junior age groups, based on the following criteria:

  • Top 20 players from the 23/07 ranking list (to be published on March 6)
  • Next 10 players from the leaderboard (excluding those already invited by virtue of ranking)
  • Two wildcard places

All players in the first two categories must meet all of the below criteria in order to be eligible:

  • Have competed in 2 x 4* events in the current season, competing in the age group in which invitation is sought.
  • Be a British national and be born in or have their main residence in England.
  • Have indicated ‘England’ nationality in their membership profile, and hence be eligible to appear on the Table Tennis England ‘rankings’ list
  • Not be currently under disqualification or suspension under the rules of Table Tennis England or ITTF & ETTU.

Additionally, in the case of players transitioning from eligibility for another federation:

  • Hold a current British Passport
  • Not have played in a National Championship of any other country in the same year (01 August to 31 July)

Athletes may apply for mitigating circumstances – in the event that they are unable to complete at two 4* events, athletes should apply to the Tournament Director as soon as possible ahead of the 23/07 ranking list publication. Injury and international representation are reasons that will be looked on favourably.

Players will be invited to the Under-17 category based only on top 30 ranked players from the 23/07 ranking list, plus 2 wildcards.

The tournament also continues to feature para competition, which was successfully introduced last season.

British Para Table Tennis will nominate athletes to compete in a Junior Mixed Para competition for class 6-10 athletes.

There is also Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Doubles in each age group and Mixed Doubles in the Junior age group only.

The competition is at the David Ross Sports Village in Nottingham on May 4-5.
