The Ormesby Women & Girls 2 Star Open was dominated by Aneta Kula from Stockport Cheshire, who won both the Open tournament in which all participants took part and the Over-15 Women’s competition.
In the main event, the Open Singles, Aneta reached the final with comfortable wins against Ormesby’s Sophie Dodds in the quarter-final and Maryam Adeel from Halifax, Yorkshire in the semi-final.
Anisha Kant from Harrogate in Yorkshire reached the quarter-final by winning Group 3. Anisha won a good match at that stage with the U15 winner, Ormesby’s Mindy Gao, which was the closest set of the whole tournament, with Mindy coming back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 before Anisha won the decider 11-6. The first two games that were won by Anisha were also very close, 11-9 and 12-10.
In the semi-final, Anisha beat top seed Cleveland veteran Pat Clements 11-6, 11-7 and 11-5.
The final was three close games, with Aneta winning by 11-8 and two deuce games, 13-11 and 12-10.
The Over-15 event also saw another very close game in the final between Kula and Kant, with Kula winning this match 11-9 in the fifth.
The Under-15 event was a round-robin competition with the two Ormesby Pathway Development players, Mindy and Mila Gao, in first and second place. Mindy was dominant in this competition, winning all four sets in straight games.
The battle was for second place, where Mila had three very close wins against Maryam Adeel, 12-10 in the fifth; Sophie Dodds, 11-4 in the fifth; and Nethuki Mudduwa from Cleveland, also 11-4 in the fifth.
Whilst the entry was not as large as the association and the club had hoped, the competition day was popular as all of the entrants played in two events and had several good matches.
The competition was broadcast through the Ormesby Facebook channel with more than 2,000 views.
The club is looking to repeat this tournament in 2026.
