Kacper Piwowar reached the quarter-finals of the European Under-13 Championships in Zagreb, while Abraham Sellado and Adam Alibhai made it to the last 32.

Piwowar (pictured above) was seeded equal fifth in the competition and got through his group without dropping a game.

He kept up that record in defeating Alexandru Pop of Romania in the last 32 and Jan Kunc of Czechia in the last 16.

In the quarter-finals, he was up against Turkey’s Kenan Kahraman, who was ranked 12th and part of the Turkey squad which won the mixed team event earlier in the competition.

And it was Kahrahman who won it to ensure a bronze medal – he lost to top seed and eventual champion Danilo Faso of Italy in the semi-finals.

Sellado also won his three group matches to go directly into the last 32, where he was beaten 3-1 (11-6, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7) by Ireland’s Peadar Sheridan, a fellow GB Start squad member. Sheridan went out in the next round.

Alibhai won two of his three group matches and then beat Portugal’s Lucas Ado in the last 64. He went out in the last 32 to Jakub Dobosz of Poland, the eighth seed.

In the mixed doubles, Piwowar teamed up with Lana Benko of Croatia. Seeded eighth, they won through two rounds to reach the last 16. They met the 17th-ranked pair Titouan Morel-Gonzales & Eva Lam of France and lost in three to a pair who went on to surprisingly take the gold without dropping a game.

Sellado, playing alongside Viktorija Oslakovic of Croatia, went out in the round of 64.
