Tom Jarvis had a great win over a player ranked almost 100 places above him at the WTT Contender Muscat event in Oman.

Jarvis (pictured above courtesy of WTT) came from 1-0 and 2-1 down to defeat India’s world No 79 Harmeet Desai, who is 96 places ahead of the 175-ranked Englishman.

That was in the third qualifying round of the tournament, having earlier defeated an Omani opponent in his opening match, in the second qualifying round.

He next faces the world No 127 Xu Yingbin of China in the final qualifying round, at 12.45pm UK time on Tuesday.

Sam Walker was defeated in his first match, also the second qualifying stage, by Sanil Shetty of India (WR 242) in a deciding fifth game, having led 2-1.

The English duo are also in the men’s doubles, in which they have been seeded into the main draw and await the winners of a qualifying tie.
