Connor Green picked up a good victory at the WTT Youth Contender Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal, but was unable to make it through to the knockout stage.

Green was the lowest ranked player in his group at No 90 on the world Junior list and, after opening with a defeat to Germany’s Andre Bertelsmeier (WR 24), he beat Thibault Poret of France (WR 43) in four games.

He then took world No 17 Darius Movileanu of Romania to a decider, but was defeated 11-8 and went out.

In the boys’ doubles, Green & Hwan Bae of Australia lost in a deciding game in the last 16 to Japanese pair Ryoichi Yoshiyama & Hayate Suzuki, ranked sixth in the field.

In the mixed, Green partnered GB Junior Squad colleague Sophie Earley and the pair (pictrued above) went out in the first round to the fourth seeds Eduard Ionescu & Ioana Singeorzan of Romania.

GB Junior Anna Hursey partnered Nicholas Lum of Australia. The pair were seeded sixth and got through their last-16 match, but were beaten in the quarter-finals by third seeds Yeh Yi-Tian & Kao Cheng-Jui of Chinese Taipei.
