Tianer Yu won two singles titles at the Blackpool 4*, including the Junior Girls’ Singles, which secures her spot at the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior National Championships.

Also confirming their invitations to the Nationals were Naphong Boonyaprapa, who won the Junior Boys’ Singles, and Cadet winners Max Radiven and Eva Eccles.

Yu (pictured above) won the Junior Girls’ title thanks to a 3-0 (11-8, 11-9, 11-9) victory over Jersey’s Hannah Silcock in the final. Both semi-finals were won in three as Yu beat Mia Lakhani 11-5, 11-6, 11-6 and Silcock defeated Bethany Ellis 11-9, 11-9, 11-9.

It was the same outcome in the U17 Girls’ event but this time Yu won 3-1 (11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 13-11) against Silcock. The beaten semi-finalists were Ellis, who lost to Yu in three, and Brooke Morris, who took Silcock to four games.

There were a couple of tight matches in the quarters, where Ellis overcame Zarita Lo 3-2 (7-11, 15-13, 11-7, 2-11, 11-6) and Morris edged Eva Eccles 3-2 (6-11, 18-16, 4-11, 11-5, 11-7).

The Junior Boys’ champion was Boonyaprapa, who defeated Gabriel Schogger 3-1 (7-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4) in the final.

Schogger beat Adam Dennison 3-1 (12-10, 7-11, 11-8, 11-6) in the semi-finals, having earlier recovered a 3-0 deficit in beating Kingham 3-1 (5-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-6) in the quarters.

Boonyaprapa came through the top-half semi-final with a 3-1 (11-6, 8-11, 11-8, 11-7) win over Gavin Yuan.

Naphong Boonyaprapa

Yuan battled past Isaac Kingham to take the U17 Boys’ title, winning the final 3-2 (11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-3).

Kingham had beaten Max Radiven 3-1 (8-11, 15-13, 15-13, 11-9) in the semi-finals, while Yuan came through the bottom half of the draw with a 3-0 (8, 7, 5) victory over Elliott Chan in his semi.

The Cadet Girls’ gold medallist was Eccles, thanks to a 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-4) win over Alyssa Nguyen in the final. She earlier beat Millie Noble 3-0 (8, 6, 1) in the semis, while Nguyen got past Isabella Turner-Samuels 3-1 (8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8) at the same stage.

Eva Eccles

Radiven defeated both Nguyen twins on his way to winning the Cadet Boys’ title. He first beat Hugo 3-2 (11-2, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9) in the semi-finals before overcoming Leo 3-0 (8, 8, 8) in the final. Leo Nguyen defeated Adam Alibhai 3-1 (11-9, 14-12, 11-13, 11-1) in the semi-finals.

Max Radiven

The round-robin U13 Girls’ Singles was won by Alyssa Nguyen, who won all five of her matches to finish ahead of Charlotte Lokching Wong and Maisha Patel. The match between the top two was won 3-2 (11-9, 9-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7) by Nguyen.

The corresponding boys’ event was won by Aarif Li, who beat Kai Lun Chow 3-1 (11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-7) in the final. Li saw off Sinan Surensoy 3-1 (11-8, 11-8, 12-14, 11-3) in the semis, while Chow beat Nishil Shah 3-0 (11-4, 11-6, 11-8).

In the team events, Grantham won the Junior Girls, defeating Wensum in the final, while Grantham II beat stablemates Grantham I 3-0 in the final to win the boys’ title. Woodford Wells/EBATT won the Cadet Boys’ title, overcoming Joola Plymouth 3-1 in the final.
