North Ayrshire (NATTC) gave themselves an outside chance of a top four place when the SBL Premier Division splits with a win against Ormeau this weekend.

Coming into the tie with just one win this season the Scottish outfit were sat at the bottom of the table. They showed real skill and determination to pull off an away win at a crucial point in the season.

Damien Provost extended his unbeaten run to get Ormeau on the board early, beating Chris Main in four. However that would prove to be the last thing for the home side had to cheer about for a few hours as NATTC turned the tie dramatically in their favour.

Colin Dalgleish beat James Skelton 3-0, before he teamed up with Martin Johnson in the doubles to beat a Provost/Skelton pairing.

Johnson kept on the pressure as he swept aside Jonathan Mooney to put the visitors 3-1 up and just one win away from their second victory of the season.

Provost had other ideas as he once again showed his class, beating Dalgleish in three. Mooney then gave the home trio hope of an incredible comeback as he beat Main 3-0 to leave the overall score at 3-3.

A nail-biter followed as James Skelton lined up against Johnson, with the visitor edging to a 13-11 win in the opening set. He then took the second 11-7 before Skelton ran out of steam and folded 11-2 to go down 3-0 and, despite his valiant attempt, see the victory go to North Ayrshire.

Ormeau’s chances of qualifying for the top mini-league still remain in their own hands. They will need a victory against Drumchapel Glasgow to secure fourth place. North Ayrshire will have to beat Fusion comprehensively and hope that other results go in their favour.

Ormesby and BATTS will face each other in a top of the table clash, with Brighton set to host TableTennisDaily.

The final round of fixtures take place on Saturday 9th March, the league will then be split into two divisions of four. The top four teams will play for the championship crown, with the bottom four trying to avoid ending in a relegation position.
