The European Veterans’ Championship, due to begin in Cardiff on June 26, 2022, has been cancelled.

Table Tennis Wales, in conjunction with the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU), reached the decision in the light of the ongoing uncertainties of the pandemic.

The ETTU says it will attempt to find another host so the event can still go ahead in 2022.

A statement by Table Tennis Wales, which had won a bid to host the event, reads: “It’s currently unclear if competitors from around the world would be allowed or willing to travel to the event.

“Table Tennis Wales has always placed competitor welfare above all other considerations and felt that for clarity and to avoid disappointment nearer the event an early decision was imperative.

“Whilst Table Tennis Wales is hugely disappointed not to be hosting the 2022 tournament, it remains committed to staging the European Veterans’ Championship in the future.”
