All five English players at the WTT Youth Contender Metz in France reached the knockout stages, with Ben Piggott and Connor Green going the furthest.

That was in the under-17, in which both won their groups with 100% records and then got through their last-64 ties. However, both were defeated in a deciding game in the last 32, in Piggott’s case by fifth seed Max Van Dessel, who went on to reach the semi-finals.

Toby Ellis also made it out of the group stage, going down in the last 64. In the under-19s, Green reached the last 64 but Ellis and Piggott (pictured above – photo by Michael Loveder) went out in the groups – Ellis narrowly beaten in two five-setters.

In the under-15s, brothers Jakub and Kacper Piwowar both went out in the last 64, while Kacper was eliminated in the group stage of the under-13s.
