England men got off to a winning start at the European Team Championships in Sweden as Paul Drinkhall won twice in a 3-1 victory over Norway. However, England women were comfortably beaten by reigning champions Germany.

Norway took the lead in the Group G clash when their top-ranked player Borgar Haug (WR 212) defeated Sam Walker in four, the match turning on the third set, which he won 13-11.

Drinkhall had no problems with Alexander Fransson, winning 3-0 for the loss of only 11 points, and Tom Jarvis put England in front by defeating Khai Noah Lam in three – though he was taken to 13-11 in the second.

Drinkhall then went the distance with Haug, who led 1-0 and later levelled at 2-2 by taking the fourth 12-10. But Drinkhall blazed through the decider 11-3.
