Clashes between promotion-chasing teams livened up the latest set of fixtures in the Braintree Table Tennis League.

Netts B ended Black Notley D’s unbeaten run in division two while Notley G did the same to Great Yeldham in division three.

Yeldham were held up by Graham Chinnery’s fifth full house of the season in their 6-4 defeat by Notley G, a match that saw two dents in Lorraine Burgess’s previously unbeaten record.

It leaves Notley G with the only hundred per cent record in the division but they fell further behind Rayne G, who beat their own H team 7-3 to open up a three-point lead. Brian How was unbeaten.

Yeldham are six points behind Notley G, as are Netts D, who lost their unbeaten record to Yeldham the previous week. Both have a match in hand.

There were two milestones in Notley H’s 8-2 win over Netts E – Notley’s first win and Netts’ first points. Mike Smith was unbeaten.

After two defeats, Sudbury Strollers got off the mark with a 6-4 win over Netts E and then repeated the dose by beating Notley H 7-3. Geoff Barrett was unbeaten in both matches.

Notley H went two better with a draw at Finchingfield where Ken Wilding was unbeaten.

Netts B’s 6-4 win over Notley D in division two owed much to Jon Hill, who won his three singles, ending Sean Clift’s unbeaten run in the process. The result widened the gap between the two teams to three points.

After defeats in their first two matches, Rayne D have moved up to third place following a 9-1 win over their own E team. Dave Marsh and Richard Whiteside were unbeaten.

They are only one point ahead of Sudbury Wanderers, who remained in touch of the top two – seven points behind Notley D with a match in hand – after a 6-4 win over Netts C.

Ian Shrubsole’s unbeaten evening means he is now the only player in the division to have won 12 out of 12.

Rayne F had an unbeaten Adi Kamma to thanks for their third win out of four, 6-4 over Notley E.

Notley’s C and F teams started a point apart and finished that way too after sharing the points. Jamie Brooks won his three singles for the F team.
