Isaac Kingham took a brilliant singles silver medal at the WTT Youth Contender Podgorica in Montenegro, and there was also a semi-final appearance for Max Radiven.

It follows earlier success for English athletes in the competition, with semi-final appearances for four athletes, including Kingham.

Following his doubles semi-final alongside Ella Pashley earlier in the competition, Kingham (pictured above) went one better with a superb run in the Under-15 Boys’ Singles.

Having topped his group, including a 3-2 (8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4) win over Axel Bossis of France, Kingham won through the last 16 and quarter-finals against opponents from Albania and Montenegro.

His semi-final opponent was Radiven, who himself was in top form with victories over GB squad player Peadar Sheridan of Ireland and top seed Steven Moreno of Puerto Rico in the previous two rounds.

Kingham won the all-England clash 3-1 (8-11, 13-11, 11-5, 11-4) and went on to face Bossis again in the final. However, on this occasion, the French player won it in four to take the title.

Adam Alibhai, Ralph Pattison and Kacper Piwowar also all got through the group stage – Piwowar beating Sheridan 13-11 in the fifth. Alibhai went out in the last 16 to Bossis, while Piwowar and Pattison went out in the quarter-finals – Pattison also a victim of Bossis.

In the corresponding girls’ competition, both Pashley and Sienna Jetha went through as group winners with 100% records.

Both had a bye through the round of 16 into the quarter-finals, but were not able to go any further as Jetha lost 3-2 (12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 9-11, 11-4) to Jana Havela of Serbia and Pashley went out 3-1 (11-4, 8-11, 11-4, 11-5) to Jiang Yiyi of China.

In the under-19 boys’ competition, Ben Piggott was the only English athlete to get out of the group stage, thanks to a victory over a Serbian opponent. He was then defeated by a Chinese athlete in the last 16. Jakub Piwowar and Felix Thomis went out in the group stage.
