Abraham Sellado has taken a sterling victory in the U13 Boys Singles event at the WTT Youth Contender Platja D’aro in Girona, Spain. Abraham had a tournament to remember and made light work of a strong field of talent from all over the world by only dropping 6 games in the whole competition.

Having qualified from his group in second place, he then faced three Spaniards in a row by overcoming Roc Gibert in the round of 16, Ladimir Mayorov in the quarter final, and Mateo Lois in the semi final to secure a place in gold medal match. Here he took on Matt Closset of Belgium, who had knocked out Kacper Piwowar in the quarter finals. Abraham was made to work for it in the final, but ultimately came away with a 3-0 victory (13-11, 11-6, 12-10).

His compatriot Kacper Piwowar also played some fantastic table tennis by progressing through to the quarter final stage of the competition. Having won both his group stage matches to finish top of his group, Kacper beat Spain’s Francisco Serrano in the round of 16 before narrowly losing 3-2 to Closset in the quarter final. Kacper gave a spirited performance that he can be proud of as the final two games ended 12-10, 14-12 in favour of Closset.

Both took part in the U15 boys singles event as well, with Abraham bowing out in the group stages, and Kacper joining fellow Englishman Ralph Pattison in the last 64. Kacper will play Australia’s Lucas Lum tomorrow at 08:00 GMT, while Ralph will play Portugal’s Tiago Olhero half an hour later. To follow the whole event click here.
