Having played nearly non-stop table tennis, and accumulating over 40 matches between them in the last three days, the lionhearted Abraham and Kacper came out victorious over Romania in the U13 Boys Team Final with a 3-1 win.

Abraham and Kacper didn’t drop a single game (until the final) in a tournament performance to remember after 3-0 victories in the group stages over Croatia-Montenegro, North Macedonia, Denmark and Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday, followed by further wins over Serbia As, Bs and Cs, Ireland, and fellow finalists, Romania, who have faced England multiple times over the last few days in both the team competition, and in the U15 and U13 singles categories.

The final itself started off with a solid win from Sellado as he glided past David Toro 3-0. Piwowar was really tested in the second match as he lost the opener 11-9, but the following two games ended 14-12, and 12-10 in favour of Piwowar. No doubt exhausted from three gruelling days of wall to wall action, Kacper couldn’t quite hold on as Toro took the final games 11-6 each, to ensure England would not win by whitewashing all comers.

In the doubles match, Sellado and Piwowar showed their class by coming out of the gates to re-stamp their authority on the tie. they took the first 11-8, but followed it up with a narrow 9-11 loss. Fortunately, this unstoppable duo came through to retake the overall lead in the final by sweeping the final games 12-10 and 11-7.

Kacper was then tasked with the job of seeing the match out, which he did so with the pace of an Olympic sprinter. Piwowar swept David Toro of Romania away, holding him to only 13 points in the whole match, as Kacper took the win 11-4, 11-6, 11-3, to secure the title for England.

The victory sets the precedent of English success whilst out in Serbia, as both Abraham and Kacper made strong starts in the singles events at both U13 and U15 age groups. In the U13 event, Kacper is seeded at number 1, whilst Abraham is seeded at number 2. Meanwhile in the U15 category, Kacper is seeded at number 7, whilst Abraham is seeded at number 9.

In the singles, both players are making excellent headway, with only one loss between the pair out of all of the U13 and U15 singles matches they have played so far. The knockout competition resumes over the weekend.
