Hannah Saunders earned a top-10 finish at the Euro Mini Championships, Bly Twomey also made it through to the main draw.

The annual tournament in Schiltigheim, France, saw eight English girls and boys take on players from around the French regions, as well as an international contingent. All the players were born in 2010 or 2012.

Saunders (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder), competing in the 2012 class, made it through three group stages with only one defeat out of six, and then saw off a Czech opponent in the round of 32.

She was defeated in the round of 16, going down 3-0 (11-8, 14-12, 12-10) to Albane Rochut of France. But the Peterborough player bounced back to win three successive positional play-offs against opponents from Turkey, Switzerland and Germany to claim ninth place.

In the same age group, Amber Lemmon won two of her six matches across the group stages and then won three straight games in the consolation draw to reach the semi-finals, where she was defeated by Slovakian opponent. She won her final match to take third place.

In the 2010 girls’ event, Twomey – recently called up to represent Great Britain at the European Para Championships in Sheffield next month, won four of seven matches across three group stages to reach the last 32, where she was defeated 3-0 (11-5, 11-7, 11-4) by Renata Shypsha of Spain.

She had a good win in the first of the positional play-offs for 17th-32nd places, defeating Seangna Rin of Ile de France 3-2 (4-11, 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-6), but then lost her next three matches to end in 24th place.

The 2012 boys’ competition saw Zihan Lin and Lewis Wu both win a number of matches across the group stages, Lin getting through to the fourth and final stage before exiting. In the consolation event, both boys went out in the round of 32, therefore earning a share of 17th position.

In the 2010 boys’ competition, there were three England representatives – Adam Alibhai, Abraham Sellado and Ryan Goodier.

Alibhai and Sellado blitzed through the first three group stages with Alibhai unbeaten and Sellado losing just once. In the fourth stage, Sellado was defeated in his two matches while Alibhai was unlucky to lose out on a three-way countback having won one and lost one.

It meant the consolation event, where both were defeated in the round of 32.

Goodier lost four of his six matches by a 3-2 margin in the first two group stages, but in the consolation event won three of his five group matches.

Those results meant Alibhai and Sellado had a share of 17th place and Goodier a share of 57th.
