Four players reached the knockout stages at the WTT Youth Contender Otocec in Slovenia, with Tianer Yu going on to make the last 16 in the under-19s.

England-based Yu made it through as group winner and was given a bye into the last 32, where she won in three against Poland’s Karolina Holda, ranked 40 places above her at No 147.

Yu then lost out in five against world No 58 Sayali Rajesh Wani of India – an improvement on her under-17 performance against the same opponent earlier in the competition, where she lost in three in the last 32.

Anna Green (pictured above) was knocked out in the group stage of the under-19s, but made it through to the last 64 in the under-17s, where she lost to Chen Xianchang of China, who went on to win the silver medal.

Ella Pashley also made it through and went out at the same stage to Katarzyna Rajkowska of Poland, ranked at No 195 more than 400 places above Pashley. The score was 3-2 (11-9, 8-11, 6-11, 11-8, 11-3).

Sienna Jetha went out in the under-17 groups but made it through in the under-15s, including having a remarkable 23-21 game in the groups. She went out in a deciding game in the last 32 to Celine Anubis Panholzer of Austria, ranked 49 places above her at 208.

Pashley went out in the groups, though only narrowly missed out as she was beaten 11-9 in a decider by India’s Manal Antal.
