Kacper Piwowar and Abraham Sellado reached the knockout stage in two age groups at the WTT Youth Contender Luxembourg.

Both went through with one victory out of two in the older under-17 group stage, before bowing out to higher-ranked players in the round of 64 – Sellado (WR 326) to Noah Vitel of France (WR 169) and Piwowar (WR 301) to world No 63 junior Julian Rzihauschek of Austria.

In the under-15s, Piwowar and Sellado both topped their groups and received byes through the last 64 to the last 32.

Both were defeated – Sellado by Mateusz Gawlas of Poland (WR 383) and Piwowar by Austria’s Tobias Tischberger (WR 380).

Prayrit Ahluwalia and Shahuraj Nimse went out in the group stage in the under-17s and under-15s, as did Sinan Surensoy in the under-15s.

However, Surensoy picked up a notable scalp in the under-13s, defeating top seed and eventual champion Miroslav Schmidt of Bulgaria 3-2 (11-7, 3-11, 9-11, 11-9, 14-12). Schmidt is ranked No 416 on the world junior list, with Surensoy at 1,182.

Unfortunately it was not enough for Surensoy to get out of the group, as his record of two wins and two defeats placed him third, with the top two going through to the knockouts.

In the Under-15 Mixed Doubles, Sellado & Vaishnavi Jaiswal of India got through the first round to reach the last 32, going out to Lee Dahye & Kim Seongwon of South Korea, the sixth-ranked pair in the competition.
