Liam Pitchford’s interest in the inaugural WTT GRand Smash in Singapore was ended by China’s Wang Chuqin in the last 32 today.
Wang, the world No 13, always had the edge over three games as Pitchford could not quite get close enough to influence the decisive points of each game.
He held a two-point lead in the third but a run of seven points for Wang – who was particularly tight on his own serve, conceding only eight points over the match – ended the contest.
Wang will play compatriot Ma Long in the last 16.
Here’s Liam’s reaction after the match:
Round of 32
Wang Chuqin bt Liam Pitchford 3-0 (11-8, 11-8, 11-5)
