The burgeoning partnership between Tom Jarvis & Connor Green takes another big step forward at the Europe Smash in Sweden.
The pair have qualified for the world-class event despite only played together at two WTT events – picking up big ranking points for reaching the semi-finals at WTT Star Contender London last October and the quarter-finals at WTT Contender Skopje in June.
The only other time they have teamed up, they won the Men’s Doubles title at the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships in March.
“We got the news that we’re in and as we’ve only played two WTT events, that’s quite an achievement,” said Jarvis.
“We’ve only played together three times and we’ve got to the semi-finals of a Star Contender and quarter-finals of a Contender, losing to the champions both times – and we’ve won the Nationals, so we’re quite a good team.
“It’s Connor’s first Smash as well, so it will be great experience for him.”
Jarvis and Green are joined in Malmo by Liam Pitchford, Sam Walker and Tin-Tin Ho – Green & Ho will also played the Mixed Doubles.
In the singles, Jarvis is back in the qualifying rounds, having been straight into the main draw at the US Smash and Singapore Smash earlier this year.
“It will be my first time in qualifying in a Smash this year, so a little different to the last two,” he said. “Qualifying is a lot tougher than people think from the outside. There’s many, many good players and it will be a good test because I’ve never made it through before – I’ve been in the last round but never got through.
“If you get to the main draw then you’re in good shape and have played more matches and you have a chance to take down one of the top guys.
“You’re just trying to make it out of qualifying and if you do that, regardless of what you do in the main draw it will be a good tournament.”
The Europe Smash starts on Saturday – draw news will appear here.
