Four England players made it through in the singles draws after a busy day at the European Youth Championships in Belgrade – and eight pairings involving English athletes are still in the doubles.

Sienna Jetha had a real tussle with Cecilia Cicuttini of Italy in the Cadet Girls, both players spurning match points before Jetha finally clinched it 15-13 in the seventh. She next plays fourth seed Alesia Sofia Sferlea of Romania.

Larry Trumpauskas also went the distance in the Cadet Boys and he battled back from 10-7 down in the decider to win it 13-11 against Benjamin Zijadic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Trumpauskas now faces 17th seed Uri Almor of Israel in the last 64 – 15th seed Jakub Piwowar of England also comes in at that stage, so is the fifth England player left in the singles. Ralph Pattison went out in the first round in five games to an opponent from Azerbaijan.

Jasmin Wong is the final remaining English player in the Junior Girls as she overcame Radmila Tominjak of host nation Serbia in five. Mari Baldwin, Amy Marriott and Anaya Patel all went out. Wong next plays seventh seed Ines Matos of Portugal.

Connor Green remains in the Junior Boys after a six-game win over Rafael Kong of Portugal, but Ben Piggott, Louis Price and Felix Thomis are out, Piggott falling to the 19th seed. Green’s next opponent is 15th seed Hugo Deschamps of France.

In the doubles, there was success in the Cadet Girls for Maliha Baig & Ella Pashley and for Jetha alongside Jersey’s Hannah Silcock. In the Boys, Pattison & Piwowar and Trumpauskas, with Sweden’s Noa Dahlstrom, went through. And in the Mixed, Edgar Moro (LUX) & Baig, Piwowar & Kendra Molnar and Trumpauskas & Hannah Silcock (JEY) are still going.

The latter cane from 2-0 down to force a super 3-2 (9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 14-12, 12-10) victory over Charles Janssens & Lilly Laffineur of Belgium. Luca Elsen Laera (LUX) & Ella Pashley and Pattison & Jetha won one match before going out in the second round.

In the Juniors, Patel & Wong and Baldwin & Marriott went out of the Girls at the first hurdle; in the boys, Connor Green & Felix Thomis advanced by beating Mart Kurvet (EST) & Sean Debono (MLT) 3-0 (11-2, 11-7, 11-8) but Price & Aljaz Godec (SLO) and Piggott & Theo Dyekjaer (DEN) went out.

In the Mixed, Piggott & Wong reached the last 64, losing to 13th seeds Hugo Deschamps & Agathe Anne Avezou (FRA) 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-7, 13-11). The other pairs involving English athletes went out in the previous round.
