Tom Jarvis was unable to defeat a second top Chinese player in as many days as he went out of the WTT Contender Durban at the hands of world No 46 Lin Shidong.

Jarvis, ranked at No 121, upset Lin’s compatriot Xue Fei in the first round in South Africa, and looked as if he could repeat the feat as he took the first game against Lin today.

But the Chinese hit back to level and then edged a tight third 12-10 to take the upper hand. Lin was never behind in the fourth and pulled ahead to seal the victory and move into the quarter-finals.

Jarvis & Paul Drinkhall are into the semi-finals of the doubles, however, following a 3-0 victory over host nation pair Kurt Lingeveldt & Luke Abrahams. They will face top seeds Xu Haidong & Xu Yingbin of China at 12.35pm UK time on Saturday. Watch live on the WTT YouTube channel (Table 1).
