Sophie Earley reached the WTT Youth Contender Metz last 16 before losing out to the top seed from China.

Earley (pictured above, photo by Michael Loveder), got through the groups and the first two knockout rounds of the Under-17 Girls’ Singles without dropping a game.

The GB Junior Squad member then faced top seed and world No 11 Qin Yuxuan and pushed her all the way to a decider before her opponent won 3-2 (11-6, 9-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-4).

Qin, who went on to reach the final, had knocked out Sienna Jetha in the last 32, by a 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-5) scoreline.

Tianer Yu reached the last 64, where she was defeated by the world No 53 Lee Seungeun of South Korea, while Ella Pashley, Maliha Baig and Naomi Coker went out in the group stage.

In the under-19s, Earley and Yat Poon both reached the last 32, respectively losing to world No 40 Zuzanna Wielgos of Poland and world No 12 Kim Seongjin of South Korea.

Yu went out to world No 94 Zhang Xiangyu from China in the last 64, while Mari Baldwin and Baig went out in the group stage.

In the under-15s, Pashley and Jetha both reached the last 64, with Jetha going out 12-10 in a decider to Iarina Precup of Romania. Coker went out in the group stage.
