Rohan Dani reached the semi-finals of the WTT Youth Contender Tunis, losing to the top seed and eventual champion in the under-15 boys’ singles.

Dani, a bronze medallist at the Mark Bates Ltd Cadet, U17 & Junior Nationals, was beaten by second seed Wassim Essid of Tunisia in the group stage, but still went through as runner-up and then defeated two more host nation athletes in the early rounds to get to the last four.

He twice came from a game behind to level against Benyamin Faraji of Iran, including taking the fourth 13-11, but lost the decider. Faraji went on to defeat Essid in the final.

Max Radiven won all three of his group matches without dropping a game and then got through his last-16 clash against Algeria’s Aylan Goudjil, before losing out to Essid in the quarter-finals.

In the under-17s, both boys got through the group stage as runners-up and were defeated in the last 16 – Radiven losing 12-10 in a decider to Faraji and Essid beating Dani.

England-based Poon Yat reached the quarter-finals of the under-19 girls’ singles, including a good win over world No 66 Dominika Wiltschkova of Slovakia in the groups.

She was beaten by another Slovakian, Adriana Illasova, in the last eight, seeing her 67th-ranked opponent come from 2-0 down to win in the fifth.

Yat & Egypt’s Mohamed Elsisy were defeated in the deciding game of a quarter-final in the mixed doubles by Samuel Palusek & Wiltschkova of Slovakia.
