British table tennis is set to enter an exciting new era, with the home nations coming together to deliver a new strategic vision on the back of UK Sport’s £1.35m investment into the Great Britain performance pathway.

The newly formed Great Britain Table Tennis Committee (GBTTC), which met formally for the first time last week, will manage the investment while working towards creating a new British Table Tennis organisation by March 2022.

The objectives of the four-year investment are:

  • To deliver a cohort of athletes to academy standard as defined by the performance matrix agreed with UK Sport
  • To develop a larger pool of appropriately experienced coaches to support the pathway
  • To develop a GB performance pathway which enables and supports the growth of future GB table tennis players

A number of key personnel are already in place, and more are being recruited – both to the committee and to the pathway staff.

The GBTTC is chaired by Simon Griew, a Director of Table Tennis England, and includes the CEOs of Table Tennis England, Table Tennis Wales, Table Tennis Scotland and Ulster Table Tennis. Each nation is also permitted to bring an extra representative to the committee and Don Parker will fill that role for England.

The committee is recruiting two additional volunteer members – click here for details of the role and how to apply.

On the staff side, as the architect of the successful bid to UK Sport for British programme funding, Simon Mills will now take on the GB Performance Director role to deliver that programme with the Home Nations.

Simon will still be a part of the Table Tennis England senior leadership team retaining overall leadership of talent, performance and competitions and bringing alignment between England and GB.

Table Tennis England Head Coach Alan Cooke will spend his time across both the England and GB programmes, while Matt Stanforth takes on the role of Head of England Performance.

Two more roles are being recruited for the GB programme, one coach and one administrator. For more details about the jobs and how to apply, click here
