Junior Mixed Doubles

Scarlett Anders & James Hamblett

James Hamblett & Scarlett Anders deposed top seed Joseph Hunter & Tianer Yu in a nail-biter to take the title.

They were up against a well-known opponent in Hunter, an Urban club-mate from north London, who had won the U17 Boys’ Doubles with Hamblett last year.

Hamblett & Anders went two up, but the next two went emphatically to Hunter & Yu.

In a tense finale, Hamblett & Anders missed two match points, but took their next chance to complete a 3-2 (11-6, 12-10, 3-11, 5-11, 12-10) victory – Anders’ second title of the day and an end to Yu’s hopes of taking all three titles on available to her today.

Hamblett & Anders also ended the clean sweep hopes of Connor Green in the semi-finals. Green was aiming to partner his twin Anna to a title he won with older sister Erin last year, but the second-seeded siblings were left disappointed as they were beaten 3-0 (11-7, 11-9, 11-8).

Hunter & Yu started quickly against Ben Piggott & Ella Pashley in the other semi, winning the first 11-1. Although they were pegged back, the top seeds went on to win 3-1 (11-1, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6).

In the quarter-finals, Hamblett & Anders staved off a fine comeback by Larry Trumpauskas & Sienna Jetha in a very tight match. The victors stepped it up in the decider to clinch it 3-2 (15-13, 11-9, 12-14, 9-11, 11-5) – they had a match point in the third.

Ben Piggott & Ella Pashley

Piggott & Pashley recovered from losing the first against Felix Thomis & Mabel Shute to progress 3-1, while Hunter & Yu only needed three against Joseph Marlor & Rebecca Savage, as did the Greens against Adam Dennison & Saskia Key.

Back in the last 16, Dennison & Key turned around a losing position to get past Jakub Piwowar & Anaiya Ali 3-2 (7-11, 11-3, 5-11, 11-6, 11-6).

Junior Girls’ Doubles

Tianer Yu & Scarlett Anders lived up to top seeding as they won the title – the first step in Yu’s quest to win all three Junior titles.

The scoreline was 3-0 (11-7, 14-12, 11-7) in favour of the London-based duo, overcoming Ella Pashley & Mabel Shute

Pashley & Shute, the U17 champions, kept up their winning form by knocking out second seeds Sienna Jetha & Saskia Key in the semi-finals. The score was 3-1 (12-10, 11-9, 3-11, 11-4).

Yu & Anders defeated Parmis Ahsani & Luna Archard 3-0 (3, 7, 8) in the other semi-final.

In the two quarter-finals, Pashley & Shute defeated Anna Piercey & Rachael Iles in four (11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 11-6), but the other match went the distance before Ahsani & Archard got through to the semis.

They were up against Eva Eccles & Mia Lakhani, who twice came back to level the score – and on another day might easily have won it – before Ahsani & Archard completed a 3-2 (12-10, 4-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-7) victory.

Junior Boys’ Doubles

Felix Thomis & Toby Ellis

Felix Thomis & Toby Ellis brought the curtain down on their Junior careers in style as they won their first National titles.

They defeated Jakub Piwowar & Larry Trumpauskas in a spellbinding final, missing a match point in the fourth but putting that behind them to win 3-2 (13-11, 7-11, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6).

In the semi-finals, Thomis & Ellis staged a remarkable turnaround to oust top seeds Connor Green & Ben Piggott.

Having lost the first two, the left-hand, right-hand combination stunned their opponents by coming back to win 3-2 (7-11, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6).

Piwowar & Trumpauskas went to the wire with Isaac Kingham & Ralph Pattison in the other semi-final, beating the U17 champions from yesterday 12-10 in the fifth. The defeated pair scored three more points in the final ‘switchback’ scoreline of 3-2 (2-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-4, 12-10).

Jakub Piwowar & Larry Trumpauskas

Thomis & Ellis came through the pick of the quarter-finals, defeating last year’s U17 champions Joseph Hunter & James Hamblett in a curious-looking 3-2 (7-11, 11-3, 11-8, 1-11, 11-9) scoreline.

Kingham & Pattison had to work to shake off Joseph Dennison & Gabriel Schogger at the same stage, but ultimately powered through the final game, completing a 3-2 (11-7, 9-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-3) victory.

Piwowar & Trumpauskas came through in three against Daniel Jones & Naphong Boonyaprapa, as did Green & Piggott against Krish Chotai & Adam Dennison.

The first round featured one match which went the distance, and it was Dennison & Schogger who came out on top, defeating Joseph Marlor & Rohan Dani 3-2 (11-7, 10-12, 9-11, 13-11, 11-5).

Last year’s Cadet champions, Max Radiven & Harry Randall, were edged out in three tight games by Krish Chotai & Adam Dennison (10, 10, 9).
